First statistical data regarding victims of torture assisted by European rehabilitation centres |

The annual conference of the European Network of Treatment and Rehabilitation Centres for Survivors of Torture, entitled "Right to health and rehabilitation", took place in Copenhagen between 19 - 21 of May 2010. The Assessment and Documentation working group coordinated by Dr. Camelia Doru, Medical Director of ICAR Foundation, presented for the first time statistical data regarding the 10 000 victims assisted by rehabilitation centres across Europe. Who is ICAR Foundation? ICAR Foundation is a non-governmental organization set up in 1991 and legally registered in 1992, having as main purpose of activity the provision of medical, psychological, social and legal assistance to those persons who, for political reasons, experienced the communist detention regime after 1946. ICAR Foundation is the first and the only organization in Romania that sets out and implements such a program. Besides the centre in Bucharest (opened in 1993), ICAR Foundation has two more other rehabilitation centres: in Iasi (opened in 1995) and in Craiova (opened in 1998). |
